Hitting the Womble

Hitting the Womble
I'm soloing the Womble starting on the 18th of this month. I'll be starting at the north end where it meets the OT and heading south to North Fork Lake. According to Tim Ernst, it's 39.5 miles; which is 1.5 miles beyond what the Forest Service deems Womble Trail; that's where I'll start, up at HWY 149 on the OT.
Anyway, I'd be happy to publish my meal plan and stuff for the trip if anyone wants to see it. (Almost all of it is from freezerbagcooking.com.) I'm planning on taking my dear sweet time and taking 4 (maybe even 5 days) to complete it.
And if anyone's been all the way through it, any advice is welcome!

Re: Hitting the Womble
I hiked the Womble last Feb. The section over Mauldin Mtn. is very dry. We hiked it the day after a good rain and there was no standing water and the few small streams were dry. That is a nice trail. Have a great time and be safe.

Re: Hitting the Womble
Thanks Hillbilly. I'll make sure to fill up before I get into the Mauldin Mtn. area.
Is water available along much of the rest of the trail? I'm contemplating carrying less water than I normally do.
How long did you spend out there?

Re: Hitting the Womble
I just did the section from North Fork to Hwy 270. We did it in a day and a half easy enough. I do not know about the rest of the trail. We about had to dry camp on Mauldin though. I about got another trail name over water that night but that is a longer story. :-)
There was water on both ends but just not over the moutnain.

Cool. That's helpful information. I appreciate it.
And I need to hear that story sometime!

I'll be heading out in the morning. Looks like the weather is going to be perfect, I can't wait.
I'll see you guys in a few days.
