UL,
I hate to hear about the injury. I am glad you were able to make it out.
I hope the injury is repairable and does not keep you down long. I look forward to a trip report.

Its going to be awhile before I'm able to put together a trip report. I'm having to deal with an IRS audit right now, so that's eating up the majority of my time.

UL - totally understand. Hope it comes out all right.
TM - I'm still OK w/ a BRT yo-yo, just thought the ERL would have more ups and downs and river crossings, which is what I need for the JMT. Thinking six days. Also, I'd like to do it with no resupply (maybe a shower though) so I'm going to try and haul six days worth of food and treat water.

JMT Backcountry Permit / ERL Yo-Yo
Received backcountry wilderness permit today for July 12, 2010 JMT!
That ERL Yo-Yo work-up / shake down is looking like sometime between June 7 -18. Planning a 6 day trip w/ no resupply (but maybe a hot shower?). I have weddings June 5 and 26 and keeping the 19th open to book.
Anyone is welcome to join in on all or part of the Yo-Yo. I'll be doing around 10 miles a day.

Re: John Muir Trail
Red 10 is not to bad.. we did 12 on the first day from the upper falls TH to Winding Stairs... very doable. Mountains may give you a little trouble but even there you can do it. I did it backwards the same way.. upper TH to Winding Stairs first night and finished the second.. Took 3 weeks to recover but is possible. I will have to see when it gets closer to the 7th.. Is this the second annual tristate solo group hike Red hahaha.

That would be awesome to make it a multi-state hike again. All or part.

Just as a headsup, I ran across Sean's journal on trailjournals.com as he prepares for the JMT this summer. Of particular interest is his training regimen.

Re: John Muir Trail
Red,
I also have found your on-line journal. I will be following you all the way! I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor.
You are living my dream. I, when younger, had wanted to do some thru-hikes but now at 57 with bad knees, over weight
(working on that) and no time it seems as though my time has past. So now I turn my efforts to trail work for all of you
guys! All the best friend!

Re: John Muir Trail
14 miles a day for 16 days?! Are the trails out west laid out better or am I just a wimp? That sounds pretty tiring. Sorry to hear about the injury, that must be really disappointing what with all the planning, cost, and anticipation that goes into a trip like that!

UL went out last year and had the injury. Redbuffalo is planning on doing the JM this year.
