New Nikon P80

Post by colt1911carry on Sat Jun 14, 2008 5:46 pm

Just got my P80 and so far I love it. Trying to get used to using it on manual and setting the aperture and shutter speed myself. Gonna take a lot of getting used to it.

Eddie... thanks for the information you have put up here. It has really helped me!

I played with the panorama assistant. My old Canon A630 had that too. Very cool feature!

What is the Historygram?

Historygram is a map of the image. Its in a graph form. Like a graft you have your high and low points. It tells you what overall color and exposure is used in the final image. Little tricky to learn. The scope is far to vast to try to post here. If you do a search on some of the imaging sites you will find tons of information out there. Its prob. one of the most powerful features on the camera. It also combines the highlights feature with it. On the image that is displayed it will blink all the highlights that are in danger of blowing out. On a digital image (any image for that matter) once a part either goes white or black there is no information in it. There is no information that has been recorded. So you try to avoid the white or black areas of a image. To do this, is where you would use the historygram with the manual settings and or the exposure comensation control.

Colt.. after checking the owners manual... p12 tells us about the "Histogram" and how to access it. Another great feature is the framing grids. This can be found just above the "Histogram" feature. This is a great aid, esp. for landscapes and people shots. It allows us to frame subjects and keep the horizon... er.. horizonal... lol. Sometimes this is a very hard task to do. Also it helps us to applly the "Rule of Thirds" to be covered in a future paper that I will write about here, in the Compisition section. lol. Note that the grid lines on the screen will "NOT" be on the final print. I have had to pay $$$ in the past to have this feature added to my SLR's. Usually involves someone opening the camera, or at the least removing the lens, and replacing the focus screen. Anywhere from $50 to $100 depending on the camera. We should get together one day or night and do a shoot out.. just bum around downtown and shoot shoot shoot. lol

Eddie,

Funny you mention getting together and shooting some pics. I was talking to my wife about getting together with you just for that specific purpose! Great minds think alike I guess. Smile We should really do that soon!

Yea great minds.. uh.. er uh.. yeah.. hahahah sure.. would be fun. Meet up downtown somewhere and shoot away. I always liked shooting night time down that away. The river has a special moment at sunset I think. Maybe just the mud or the homeless but special non the less. lol.

I thought Hernando was a little further than that from Memphis. I am only about 15 minutes from downtown myself, in Arkansas. We should definately get together so I can learn from someone who actually knows what the heck they are doing!

What is the construction company, just out of curiosity.
