Trip report for Shores Lake Loop / OHT 03/22/09 03/23/09
UL and I planned a trip that would be conducive for his
wife and my daughter to go. So we picked Shores Lake Loop a 13.4 mile loop
trail through the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas between White Rock Recreation
Area and Shores Lake Recreation Area. Wilky (Kyle), Lew (myself Dusty) and my
daughter Sarah aka Speedy, UL (Jim) and his wife and his nephew were all in on
the hike. It was great to get out again. With the anticipation of this being
Sarahs (Speedy) first hike I was really trying to make sure I got everything
right.
So we started hiking around 10 that morning the first part
of the hike is very easy you casually hiking along the creek. Then the climb up
the mountain is a bear. We made it to the top eventually cant really remember
what time I think it was around 4:00. We picked out a spot and enjoyed the
windy view for the rest of the day. The next morning we started hiking around
9:30 and got the truck around 12:45. Speedy had a great first trip she enjoyed the hike and I heard her talking to one of her friends about eating out of a zip lock bag and hiking 13.4 miles. Sorry for the short report all I have time
for.

Wow, great report Lew!!!!!!
I am so glad that your daughter enjoyed herself, and glad that you got pics of the cast iron skillet and the 20lb. Propane tank
!!!!! My luck, I would fall backwards because of all that weight, the skillet would hit a rock and cause a spark, and at the same time that the tank would rupture and blow my head off. I hope that you tried to very respectfully educate this person
I also liked seing Jim jog to catch up to Speedy, great vid

Lew,
Great report and great pics! Thanks for sharing. I can't even begin to think of carrying a propane tank and a cast iron skillet! I met a troop of scouts back in Feb. when we were working on our section of the OT and they were must better prepared and instructed.

Nope we all just keep on walking after I asked to take the pic! I didn't figure it was my place to educate the young man.

I remember the first time I tried backpacking and it was with a group of church boys. You would not believe the things they pulled out of their packs the first night. They kept saying Mama said I had to bring this. The next time we had an empty your pack and a "Mama ain't here" shake down.

Yea, the propane tank was definitely an eye-opener. The trip was great. Glad to see that there is someone out there that can keep up with bostonmtnman's pace. Speedy definitely has a great pace. Gave me a chance to get in some trail running on the trip down.
