Fall Water On the OHT

I'm daydreaming about a nice long hike. I wouldn't mind attempting half of the OHT. When do the Arkansas creeks start flowing in fall, or does one have to wait till spring for reliable water sources?

Coldspring:
This is an unusual year in that we are getting rain during months when we are usually quite dry, so unless we go thru a dry spell later in the summer, water should not be a huge issue. I would still plan on carrying a minimum of 1 liter, if not 2 liters, of water and camel up at all water sources, just in case.

Sept and Oct are normally dry... when is it normal? Sometimes late Oct, more often into Nov but sometimes waits till Dec to start getting good and wet. Different years...

Has been a funny summer. I was out on a springfed river the other day and thinking it was weird to see bikinis in the 70 degree (for a high) weather.

I'm still daydreaming now, but I need to seriously think about hiking 1/2 of all of the trail. As long as I didn't get foot blisters, I could do the whole thing.

What is the best halfway point? I wouldn't be taking a phone, I suppose I could get dumped off in the middle and hike to one end with a phone for pickup, Tyler Bend or Lake Fort Smith.

I've already jinxed it...if I ever try to make a big plan, publicly, it never happens.

I believe Ozone is close to the mid-way point on the OHT. It's only about 2-3 miles off the trail. Not a lot there, but better than some of the trailheads along the way.
I've been kinda playing around with the idea of doing a thru-hike of it this fall, but haven't really gotten past that stage yet.

I sure am THINKING about hiking. Got some new merino wool socks and undies ordered, and I lucked onto a discounted pair of my favorite hiking shoes tonight. I ought to be able to do some miles with those three things!

In the meantime, I've got two and a half more months of canoeing to do up here on the nice springfed Missouri rivers!

How cold could I expect it to get at the end of October, first week of November? I should know this stuff, I've spend most of my life in the Ozarks. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of new sleeping bag to get. The 20F WM Ultralite is just a little too narrow for my size, or it would be a no-brainer.

Any Arkansan looking for a mint condition Moonstone Lucid 20F long bag, hit me up. Comparable bags in current production would be a WM Ultralight or Sycamore and Marmot Helium or Hydrogen.

I've never had problems that time of year with a 20 degree bag. In fact, it was probably an overkill.

However, I took a trip up there a few years ago in late November and it was in the single digits at night. Fortunately, I took a zero degree bag, or I would have been piling on the fleece to sleep at night.

I have two bags. A Marmot Atom (40 deg) and a Montbell Alpine #1 (15 deg). I usually don't go to the Montbell until mid-December or even later. You'll just have to watch the weather forecast pretty close and then make your own judgement.
I'm planning to experiment with the AMK Thermolite Bivy in the early fall. It is rated to 50 degrees, by itself, and weighs only 6 oz.

Okay, gotta keep this plan alive. The cooler weather sure is making me want to go. Need some motivation here.
