BFC 2009 Current Score

Post by Jay on Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:00 pm

I'll design a fancy scoreboard one of these days, but for now I thought you guys might want to know which team is in the lead:

Intrepid Explorers: 192.5 Total Miles / 75 Overnight backpacking Miles

Trail Stompers: 186.5 Total Miles / 115.5 Overnight Backpacking Miles

As of right now, the Intrepids are ahead, but the Stompers are vying for the backpacking perk come April 1st!

NOTE: I decided to reduce the multiplication factor for trail maintenance to 2 instead of 3. I certainly don't mean to punish the trail workers but I'm afraid the factor of 3 may have resulted in a blowout. If any of you guys feel the need to yell at me and say bad words, please feel free to send me a PM. Hey, you're still getting double!

Let's keep things close and keep on packing on the mileage!

You should be worried, because we haven't even gotten started yet. And you can kiss that backpacking perk goodbye, too!! Razz

Jay,

Can we claim backpacking miles if we carry our full pack on a day hike?

I need to get out a lot more, I thinks its time to hit the 5.5 mile Lake Fayetteville trail tomorrow morning, I may even have to do it twice! I am still at 50 pounds lost, and haven't lost anymore weight since January, but I think I can loose another 10 pounds. This fitness challenge is about getting healthier right Very Happy. Oh well, time to hit the trail.

That is great that you have lost that much weight!! CONGRATS

I have a personal goal myself for this year that I started back at the end of November. I intend to lose 6 inches in my waist and about 70 pounds. The inches are my main goal because I just dont step on a scale that much. So far I have lost 3 inches and about 30 pounds and I am enjoying my new life style so much there is no telling where I will stop.

CONGRATS again!

Hey ED, somehow I missed this post. Sorry buddy.

To answer your question:

I don't see why not. This is about fitness, after all. I didn't add your mileage into the backpacking mileage for your team this time, but I will next time. As long as you are carrying all the things you would normally carry on at least an overnighter, I don't see any reason that you shouldn't claim backpacking mileage. Just be sure to report it as you did before.

Now, get out there and go!

On a day hike I carry more weight than I carry on a backpacking trip. I carry 40 pounds on a day hike and I carry 27-30 (depending on amount of food) for a backpacking trip. I like to carry as much weight as possible on a day hike for a good workout.
