GPSed??
I got a new Blackberry Curve 8900, and I downloaded GPSed. So far it seems to work well for me, especially since it is a free GPS, but I was wondering if anyone knows of something else that may work better? This shows me distance, speed, elevation, tracking, etc., but since I am really new to GPS's I really would not know one from the other. I have heard of everytrail before, and I do not know if GPSed will still work when I run out of coverage. Oh well, we have been quiet around here for a while so I thought I would spit this out

Re: GPSed??
Dwight.. yes.. no coverage, no GPS.. There is no phone currently in production that has a GPS chipset in it and we cant find any that are intended to be put into production. But as long as you have coverage you have a decent GPS lol. Good luck. Let us know how you like the software. I have heard good things about it.

Re: GPSed??
Is this what I would need so that I could use it when out of service? I saw this the other night while I was looking for stuff, but I didn't understand what it was used for.

Re: GPSed??
This was the actual site that I looked at last night. They all look the same, and if I find that I do need something like this, would it be better off just to get a dedicated GPS, instead of one that needs my phone?

Re: GPSed??
Yeah by the time you’re done.. your back up to what you would pay for a dedicated GPS.. An the thing you will have to watch when using the little bugger is with no external antenna it may not get coverage in heavy canopy. Unless it has a high gain antenna. Did not really read into to specks of it. I really would surprise me if it was very accurate at all. Red Buffalo had a Garmin eTrax Vista with the good antenna on the ERL and it was not accurate at all when compared to my Oregon or ARHikers MAPSGPS 60CSX. Our two were fairly close but his was no where even close to on the mark. Just a FYI for you. I can't possibly imagine that key chain device being any more accurate. Good attempt though.. you get a A+ for trying lol

That's what I thought, I have been telling Amanda that I need a dedicated GPS. Cross your fingers that I get one for father's day, but I doubt it. Oh well, the free one on my phone will have to work for now

Re: GPSed??
I just wanted to update this and let yall know how it is working out. You need to start out with cell coverage, but after that it follows the satellites really well. I am in Springfield, Oregon right now, and on the way here, it tracked me all the way through Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. I was really amazed with this, and yesterday it tracked me as we crossed the PCT between Mount Jefferson and the North Sister. I will have to check it out in Devil's Den when I get back home in a few weeks, but so far so good
