Seam Sealer?

Post by willky1 on Sun Jul 20, 2008 3:17 pm

Didn't really know where this should go, but here it is. Does anyone know where I can get seam sealer. I want the stuff that looks like a piece of tape has been applied. It is slightly translucent, but for the most part you can see through it. I have no idea where to get it from. UL, I think your new tarp was sealed this way. If anyone knows, please let me know!

I checked with Mike, the guy that made the tarp, and he brushed on the seam sealer with a foam brush. He used 100% silicone diluted with mineral spirits. You could also use silnet.

Thanks UL. I might have to do that, because it looks like I might have made up what I was looking for. I can't find the stuff anywhere.

If you use silicon and mineral spirits it is worth the money to just buy one of those paddles thats fits a drill to stir paint with and use it. Otherwise, you will be stirring by hand forever trying to get the right consistency.

Moosejaw.com sells seam sealer like your talking about. Or if you ask Lewis and Clark they can order it. They usually have it here in the Rogers store.

You can also get Seam Seal at Wal-Mart in the sporting goods dept.
That's what I use.

UL,
Is it the same stuff that is being talked about here, or something different. I'm always a little cautious about buying stuff for walmart. Is the quality good?

As far as I know, it's the same stuff. I have used it to seal my Double Rainbow and have not had any problems with it. I'm sure that it's the same thing.

I may have to check that out. How long does it take to dry?

It will tell you on the label, but I usually let it dry overnight, if possible.

What?! Shocked

Questioning the quality of Walmart products? Evil or Very Mad

Don't you know that Walmart is the secret shopping ground for REAL outdoorsmen?

(Okay, seriously, I have caught myself carrying more and more stuff into the woods from Walmart. They aren't much for lightweight gear, but I haven't had any problems with the few outdoor items I use from there. (poly cord, Biodegradeable wetwipes, etc.))

Me too Laughing I usually go on a fabric buying spree and hit up around 5 Wal-marts, then Amanda kills me because we already have a lot. To stay on topic though, I use silicone diluted in mineral Spirits.
