Hi.....I just stumbled on this site while looking for info on the Eagle Rock Loop and it looks like this is the right place for good info!

Can someone tell me about the river crossings on the Lil Mo. I'm planning on doing the loop in a couple weeks with my 11 year old and her Australian Shepherd. She is an experienced backpacker (for 11 anyway) and has handled spring crossings on the Buffalo just fine, but I don't want to get her into anything more than she can handle. At what river level ...

My two grand children and myself arrived at the shelters beside Bard Springs Friday evening(2/26/10) at about 5pm. We were shocked to find the ground covered with snow. We put our tent in one of the shelters and slept well. We were up early Sat. AM and packing. The kids do not have a lot of experience so it takes us a while to get moving.

We arrived at the Buckeye Trail Head at about 9. It was a beautiful morning. The trail was covered with snow but we were warm and the sun was bright. ...

Going through the guidebooks, there are so many great trails and possibilities that I'm a little overwhelmed. We plan to go during spring break, in two weeks, around March 17th or so.

We live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, so anywhere in southwestern Arkansas within a 6 hour drive would work the best. We would drive up in the morning, which would put us at the trailhead around 2 - 3 PM. That ...

I usually leave all my keys (except for the truck key) in the truck glove compartment with my wallet minus credit cards. I was wondering how far in it was before we got to a good campsite. We will hike in and hike back out the same way. I've hiked the Buckeye and I know it is too hard for my son, but he can do (I hope) the east portion of the Caney Creek Trail. Thanks in advance.

My reason for preferring a tent over a hammock is that I am looking for one item to do it all....I hike a lot of areas that don't have trees, ie desert, or gravel/sandbars.

Between a tarp and a tent, I feel more of a sense of security in a tent. I have a tarp, but usually use it as an extra for shade, rain, when I want to be out of the tent. I am currently looking at a tent that weighs 2.2lbs. (Big Agnes FlyCreek 2) a free-standing, double-walled tent...I also like free standing for the same ...

I am considering the following; small prolite 8 oz. maybe coupled with a cut down ridgecrest for added comfort and insulation, approx 15 oz total. The ridgecrest would offer some protection and insulation for the pad.
This is a series of interconnecting loop trails with up to 32.5 mi. possible. I've been looking at this area for a while, it is in OK just across the AR/OK border, south of OK Hwy 63, not too far from Mena. Doesn't sound like it gets a lot of use and some of it is pretty rough, sounds like an interesting possibility to me. Anybody interested in an exploratory trip, maybe the end of March?

As related in a previous article,

the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission crossed the boundaries of their

law-making power in 1995. In March of 1997, the Arkansas Supreme Court ruled the AGFC’s “power

to regulate the manner of taking game certainly does not translate into

a general power to regulate the general possession of all

Also, would it be different if I was trying to blow up a JPEG picture that utilizes the same amount of MPs?

I think part of it is the aperture setting but maximium apeture and high shutter speed are required for low light fast action shots. Any suggestion for these out of focus pix??

Well guys,

As a few of you know, I'll be leaving in less than a week for California to hike the John Muir Trail. I'll actually start on August 17th and finish on September 1st. My itinerary is 16 days/225 miles.

I've already mailed off my re-supply package that will be packed in via mule train to the Muir Trail Ranch where I will pick it up on August 25th.

For those who might be interested in my gear list, here it is:

There are two oak trees down right next to each other at about 2.5 in from the east. These look like they are freshly downed because there is not much evidence of people hiking around. Mostly just the tops are blocking the trail.

I also found a very large beech down at about 5 miles in from the east this is a very large tree and it will take alot of work to remove it (if it is even possible). It is completely blocking the trail and will probably have to have a path cut around it.

Just back from a hike with the wife, Janet and Jay. I highly recomend this trail. Fantastic views, terrific old growth (100+ yrs. old) stunted Oaks at the top. The only thing it is kinda long so plan on a full day. Start EARLY, we were going to hike up on Rich Mountain but swirling clouds, wind chills probably in the 20's or 30's changed our plans. I am sure that Jay will give a trip report, I am to tired to! Any way was still a great hike of 8+ miles. I will post some pictures later.
