Serious question ...

Looking for second career to keep me busy & am looking to finally

get a job that I enjoy. Would like to be a general fitness trainer at

the gym and am looking for a course that is comprehensive, not-crazy

hard, and a good value for the money. It would need to be primarily

distance learning, something internationally recognized preferred, a

year or less to complete, and the cost under $4K.

Well guys,

As a few of you know, I'll be leaving in less than a week for California to hike the John Muir Trail. I'll actually start on August 17th and finish on September 1st. My itinerary is 16 days/225 miles.

I've already mailed off my re-supply package that will be packed in via mule train to the Muir Trail Ranch where I will pick it up on August 25th.

For those who might be interested in my gear list, here it is:

OK Guys,

After finally signing up for the backcountry fitness challenge, and shedding 50 pounds, I have decided to begin training for sprint triathlons/5k runs (I know, call me crazy). The whole purpose for this is to raise awareness for testicular cancer, and to raise money for The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation. Most of you know that I am a testicular cancer survivor, and now I want to stay healthy!

I figure that if I can get some of the college guys and men around here ...

We camped at the rush campground the first night, then hit the river on Monday morning in two canoes. My brother and I switched back and forth between the canoes so that everyone would have a chance to fish from the front (and also because the parents are getting up there in age).

It's a little to hot for me to put a lot of miles under my feet but I've been itching to get out and be productive. Anyways, there are a few seldom used trails that I would like to clear out in hopes to redraw a little attention to them for people who would like to have access to other loop options along the BRT. Anyways, two trails in particular ...

We hiked to Thunder Canyon Falls at Cecil Cove near Erbie on Tuesday.Weather was perfect for this time of year. The water was up from the recent rains so we thought the falls would really be running. The first crossing of Cecil Creek was definitely a wet one, knee deep at best. The 2nd crossing was mostly dry, but lots of water coming from the resurgence area. We headed downstream to the Thunder Canyon drainage and the first thing I noticed was that there is a trail now. I will be leaving here, hopefully, by 5:00 am. I hope to get to the falls

before the heat builds, that is if I don't encounter any major dead fall

along the way. Spend some time around the falls, let the grand daughter

play in the water, heck I might also! Then head on back out. Any major

dead fall I will report to the FS. I will have my shears ...

Lew and I just got back from doing the BRT end-to-end and I wanted to share the details of our trip.

Monday, October 20

We left the Boxley Trailhead at 8:30 am to a great, cool sunny day. Our goal for the first day was to reach Steel Creek campgrounds by that afternoon. We expected to have a fairly dry trip, as it hadn't rained in the area in some time, so, since the campgrounds along the way still had running water, our plan was to camp at Steel Creek and Erbie and to carry ...

We were due a hike anyway, me 'n my buddy Kat, around that time so we spent a day humping limbs instead of a pack. They assigned us on a crew clearing up a section of the Pigeon Roost Loop - so we had to add it to our list of trails to hit. Only problem is that it is short.
Here are a few snaps from earlier this week. I introduced my two daughters to the Winding Stairs Trail. I've always wanted to stay in this area for a few days so we camped two nights. It was warm during the day, but the water was refreshingly cool. The girls did great on the trip and gained some new skill sets; water crossings and treating water. Looking ahead to my ERL yo-yo next week. Wish me luck.

This is a panoramic shot I put together.

Nice morning light.

We took our church boys, 12ish to 17ish, out for a campout this weekend. Plan A was complicated by the rainfall, a float trip on the Buffy. Plan B proved much better. We drove only 1/2 an hour to Greers Ferry Lake for swimming, canoeing, fishing and the campout. Excellent time. Enough background...

I got a hammock from Preacha D. (thanks again, brother) Brought it on this trip. Wasn't sure how sleep arrangements would play out. My son claimed that hammock and has informed me he will be using ...

Ok everyone Liz at the Mt Ida FS office has given me the go ahead..

You and your group can adopt a section of the ERL to maintain. Right

now this is kinda loosely organized. I would suggested that everyone should

agree to work on their "sections" at least twice a year. I would think that

all would agree that anytime that you hike you can notice things that

need to be done at anyplace on the trail and report it. One thing for sure

must be done is that everyone, even large ...

Well I would like to say that we had a great trail crew working on the trails

in the ERL today! The following great guys helped out from the FS106 trail

head thru the Winding Stairs to the Viles Branch Crossing:

PreachaMan (Dwight)

Ted Zwermann (Texarkana, TX)

Dave Stankiewicz (Glenwood, AR)

And yours truly

We started early from the trail head and lopped our way thru Chris's

section, lending you a hand Chris! then crossed at the double crossing

of the Little Mo into the Winding Stairs. ...

I wanted to take the time to thank all of our forum members that are vets today. Also all of your relatives that have served our country or have given the ultimate sacrifice.

My son, Bryan was in the Air Force and the Naval Reserves. My father couldn't serve in WWII due to health reasons, he had a sunken chest due to a barn door falling on him as a child, but served his country at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.

Thanks again!
