TM,

I agree. One thing I have learned from working in wilderness if you can go around it let it be! The one thing that I dislike about dealing with the OT is that you get complainers when a tree is left on the ground and folks have to step over it. The question is do you want a hiking trail or do you want a freeway thru the woods?

Like to add that is one reason we have given up our sections of trail on the OT and have taken over the first 2.8 miles of the Kiamici wilderness in OK.

My Dallas crew and I would like to adopt section 11 from the Falls to the deep crossing. That's the part we use the most and we would love to keep it in good shape. That is listed as 5.9 miles but that can't be right. Also Long Creek to AP is not 2.5 miles. I think 12 & 13 should be combined into one section. That's only about 3.5 miles, I think.

Mark.. yeah I kind of goofed on the miles.. that last excel list that I published should be correct.. At least it works out to the 26.8 miles Total. Section 11 is 3.8 miles and 12 is 2.5 miles and 13 has been cut off. Section 10 is from the upper parking lot to the falls is 4.1 miles. I am going to re-post it again just to keep people confused as much as possible hahaha. But I will put you guys down for section 11.

Just a run down on things to do before you work on your trail sections:

1. Fill out a work release form and send it back to Liz at Mt. Ida

2. Contact the FS and let them know that you plan on working and were

3. Keep up with your miles driven, time to and from your sections and total time working and what you did

4. Fill out a DETAILED trail work reporting form, that I will provide for you, please list any thing that needs to be done that you aren't equipped to handle (can be emailed back to Liz). Depending on what it is some times it helps to send in pics. That is what I did last year in Caney Creek Wilderness, the FS had know idea it was as bad as it was and they sent in a crew to cut the trees after the fact.

5. Any questions? PM me...

What do you guys think? Doesn't make me any difference...

TM,
Please refer to the above earlier post and take me of any
adopted sections. I and ar.hiker will be rovers. Even though i will
probably keep it clear any way. If you have any questions PM me.

Actually, it'll just be some of us that were on the trip. There would be way too many rules if we made this a Sierra Club event.

I'm too far away to give my word on a commitment (as much as I love that trail). BUT, if that sleeping bag and pillow is still on the trail next time I'm out there I WILL HIKE IT OUT!

I'm considering adopting section 3 for me and Brenda. Just checking with the CEO now- I'll confirm later today or tomorrow.
