trail extension workdays

Post by Clif on Thu Feb 04, 2010 6:19 pm

Copied this from the Canoe Club message board. Thought some may have interest.

Hello again to each of you--

Weather
again forces us to cancel work scheduled for February 6--as it did for
two Saturdays in January. To make up for the loss, we're adding two
Saturdays to the original schedule. Here's the new schedule (weather
allowing), for the following Saturdays:

FEBRUARY 13, FEBRUARY 20, MARCH 6, and MARCH 13.

On
those Saturdays we'll meet by 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot in front of
Harps Supermarket on U.S. Highway 65 at Marshall. As always, wear work
clothes and hiking boots, and bring a daypack with lunch and drinking
water. We'll carpool from Harps to the work area.

The
National Park Service furnishes trail tools, but if you have pruners,
lopping shears, or a pruning saw you'd prefer to use, bring it along.
NOTE: If you have a chainsaw and know how to use it safely, bring it,
please. We have fallen trees to cut along the trail line.

We'll
be clearing a flagged line where volunteers later will dig and level a
walking path. Usually the path goes across slopes, sometimes steep. If
you have difficulty walking across hillsides, this may not be
comfortable for you.

We're building the Buffalo River Hiking
Trail, and the scenery is outstanding. If the sun is shining (as it did
not in January), or even if it is not, we promise you a good time.

Questions? E-mail me, or phone me at 479-443-4098.

Hope you can be with us!

Ken Smith
