Buffalo River Shuttles?

Post by colt1911carry on Mon Dec 29, 2008 9:02 am

Does anyone know of any shuttles in the Buffalo area? Since it looks like Dwight is not going to make it, I am trying to keep from having to take 2 cars almost 5 hours away just to use as a shuttle.

Most of the canoe rental places do shuttles. When is your trip planned?

Colt:
You can contact Buffalo River Outfitters at 800-582-2244 in Ponca. They will shuttle your vehicle (for a FEE!!) to Pruitt and leave it there for you to pick up. I used them in '04 on my end-to-end hike and at that time, the fee was $45.00. With gas cheap again, it may be around that amount again.
Something to keep in mind. Steel Creek, Kyle's Landing, and Erbie have pay phones that work year-round, in case you need one in an emergency. Ozark and Pruitt may also have phones. Keep the shuttle's phone number with you, along with a calling card, in case something happens that makes it necessary for them to meet you elsewhere with your car. They usually don't deliver your car until the morning that you are expected to arrive at Pruitt. So you need to know about how long you expect it to take you to arrive there.
Hope this helps,
UL

Colt,

Razorback canoe rental has been cheaper with canoe shuttles in the past. They are located north of Jasper near Marble. (870) 446-2255
I am not sure if they are open this time of year.

We are arriving in the Buffalo area on Wednesday and starting the trail first thing Thursday morning.

I looked into Buffalo River Outfitters, but they are wanting $60 now for the Boxley to Pruitt shuttle. That seems a little high to me, so I was looking for more options. Thanks for the other information as well, UL.

I will give Razorback a call as well and see what their rates are. Thanks, HBH.

I am still trying to work it out, I really want to go, but work calls. The weather looks like it will be good, and I really want to go.

I really hope you can make it for sure! I am only looking into shuttles as a contingency. Let me know as soon as you know either way though, if you don't mind.

Colt:
You could always hike from Boxley to Pruitt and then turn around and hike back to Boxley!! Razz

UL:
I would LOVE to, but I we don't have the time to do a round-trip of the BRT. We only have 4 days. Gonna try our best to finish the trail in three, but we have one extra day there as padding just in case my butt can't make it in three.

Found a really cheap shuttle. I emailed many outfitters in the Buffalo and this was the cheapest I found:

http://www.buffaloadventures.com/

They meet you at their office and shuttle you to Boxley. Then they drop your car at Pruitt on the morning of the day you request so your car sits at their office instead of the trailhead while you are on the trail. This makes it much more secure.

Total cost for this is $30.00. That is half the cost of some outfitters I asked. The quote I found interesting from the guy who emailed me is, "I try and look at shuttles as a courtesy, and would rather make friends than a couple of bucks." Really nice guy.

Located on 74W, 5 miles west of Jasper.

Thanks for the heads up on the shuttle service. I will keep this in mind should I need this service.

The guy who owns Buffalo Adventures is named Bill. He was awesome, and even helped us to build a rock bridge over Smith Creek so we could start the trail from Boxley without getting our feet wet right off the bat. We gave him 2 $20 bills, and he graciously returned the $10 that we overpayed when he dropped the truck off at Pruitt. Since he was so great, we ended up giving him the $10 back. I would definately recommend his business to anyone for all of your shuttle and paddling needs. We definately made a new friend in the area.

Here's a link to some shuttles for the BRT. I know its a little late, but I just found it. Maybe someone can use this next time. If nothing else, they've got the contact info for the companies.
